A gendarme, Prasanna Behera, who was suspended on Friday for illegally operating the bar at the South City hotel, where journalist Navin Das’s son, Manish Anurag, last visited before his assassination, was arrested on Saturday. .
Behera, who is the president of the Havildar and Constable Association, was arrested by the police station for allegedly operating the bar without a valid license, violating Covid-19 protocols and instigating a criminal conspiracy.
In addition, police also arrested South City hotel owner Pradyumna Jena and bar manager Souvik Jena for violating Covid rules.
On Friday, the police station transferred the police station from Tamando IIC to Pramod Pattnayak and placed agent Prasanna Behera on suspension for illegally operating a bar.
“As part of the Manish Anurag murder case, a separate case was filed for running the bar until late on the night of October 9. During the investigation, it was found that the bar’s license had expired. Based on the investigation report, the PC took action against police personnel for violating Covid-19 guidelines, ”Bhubaneswar Umashankar Dash DCP said.
Police also raided the bar on Friday and seized huge amounts of alcohol. The seizures also included counterfeit banknotes in denominations of Rs 10 and 50, supposed to be stored for the shower on the bar dancers.
Manish had been murdered following a quarrel with his friends over paying a bill at the hotel in Patrapada on October 9. The next day, his body was found floating in a pond in the local village.
During the investigation, police arrested three defendants, Amrit Biswal, Dinesh Mohapatra and Mrutyunjay Mishra, for murder and destruction of evidence.
